Itinerary
DAY 1: ARRIVE IN ACCRA, GHANA
After late evening arrival in Accra you will be met, assisted and transferred to your hotel for the next three nights.
DAY 2 : ACCRA
After breakfast there is an orientation which includes a two hour lecture/discussion on Ghanaian institutions, religions, and the significance of births, marriages, death and life after death. After orientation, we will visit the W.E.B. Dubois Center for Pan Africanism and library. Visit Black Star Square and the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial (the tomb of Ghana’s first President. Pass by Independence Arch-Accra's ceremonial grounds. After lunch (on your own) we continue to historic Jamestown to meet the fishermen of Salaga beach. This evening enjoy a welcome dinner and receive your African name in a traditional naming ceremony.

DAY 3: ACCRA/CRUISE/ACCRA
Today enjoy a cruise aboard the Dodi Princess on the Volta Lake with lunch and live entertainment. This is a great opportunity to interact with Ghanaians as this is a regular Sunday outing. Before returning to Accra, visit the Akosombo Hydro-electric dam which provides most of Ghana’s electricity.

DAY 4 : ACCRA / CAPE COAST-ELMINA
After Breakfast, depart to Cape Coast stopping at Kakum National Park. Kakum Park is one of Ghana’s most famous parks. Kakum is also home to Africa’s only aerial walkway through the tree canopy, a 1000-ft long, seven-bridge walkway with viewing platforms that reaches heights of over 150 ft above ground. Continue to Coconut Grove Resort to check into our accommodations for the next three nights. This afternoon we will visit (Elmina Castle) Fort Sao Jorge de Elmina. Elmina Castle, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, was built in 1482 and is the first European structure in sub-Saharan Africa.

DAY 5 : CAPE COAST-ELMINA
After breakfast we will visit a women’s cooperative called "Women in Progress". We will be given a tour of the facilities and learn about the origin and operations of the facility. Lunch will be served at the cooperative. Our tour of Cape Coast continues with a visit to the nearby Volta Fishermen Community, a coastal village with traditional industries and Volta style houses (Circular thatched Huts). Continue to Cape Coast Castle and the Castle Museum for a guided tour. Cape Coast Castle is another restored UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Castle was one of the embarkation points for Africans being shipped to slavery. Cape Coast was alos the capital of Ghana during the Colonial Era.

DAY 6 : KUMASI
After breakfast depart to Kumasi, the realm of the ancient Ashanti Kingdom of Gold. En route we stop at a village to interact with the villages and learn about their culture and daily activities. Continue to Kumasi where we arrive late afternoon. Time permitting, we will visit the facilities of Anglo-Ashanti Goldfields before checking into your accommodation for the next two nights

DAY 7: KUMASI
After breakfast we will visit the Kumasi Central Market, the largest open-air market in West Africa, where more than 10.000 traders ply their wares. Continue with visits to the Ashanti craft villages starting with the Woodcarving Village of Ahwiaa, known for the talented craftsmen who fashion royal stools, walking sticks and fertility dolls. Our second stop is the village of Ntonso where Artisans hand-stamp patterns on cotton cloth to make Adinkra textiles that are worn for funerals and other solemn occasions. Our third village is Bonwire where the famous Kente cloth is handmade on looms, in a time-honored tradition passed down through generations. Visit the home of Nana Yaa Asantewaa, the legendary female general who led Ashanti Armies against British Forces in 1900. After lunch our tour continues with a visit to Manhiyia Palace and museum.

DAY 8 : KUMASI--BUABENG FIEMA MONKEY SANCTUARY
Depart Kumasi for the village of Buabeng Fiema where Sacred Monkeys live in harmony with the community. You will likely interact with the monkeys. In the evening drive to Lake Bosomtwi where you may cruise on the lake.

DAY 9 : KUMASI/MAMPONG/ACCRA
After breakfast, we depart to Mampong Center for Research into Plant Medicine and Herbal Research Center. You will get an insight into the treatment of Diabetes and high blood pressure using traditional medicine. Continue to Tetteh Quarshie Cocoa Farm, the first commercial Cocoa farm in Ghana. You will touch the actual Cocoa pods. Cocoa is Ghana’s largest export and is used to blend some of the world’s finest chocolates. Continue to Aburi Botanical Gardens for Lunch. Aburi was established in 1890 as an agricultural research station and convalescent home for the British Colonial Administration. Learn about the cultural and medicinal importance of the trees in these gardens. Continue to Accra.

DAY 10: ACCRA
Today we will continue to explore Accra, Ghana’s capital city and seat of Government. After lunch, visit a local casket making shop to see a collection of caskets carved in the shape of different objects, depicting traditional beliefs in life after death. The "Fantasy Coffins" of Teshie Nungua have been featured in National Geographic and can be found in museums and galleries worldwide. Later this afternoon we pay a courtesy call on The La Wulormo. The La Wulormo is the Spiritual Leader of the La Traditional area, he is above political participation and tradition prohibits him from using foot-ware. We will learn about the history, culture and the role of the La People in the Ga Tribe. We will be treated to La Wulormo’s traditional hospitality. This evening, enjoy a farewell dinner with live entertainment.

DAY 11: ACCRA/DEPART
Your tour of Accra continues with visits to the Artists Alliance Gallery and the Loom Art Gallery where on display are authentic art works by renowned Ghanaian Artists. Just how good are you at bargaining? Find out as we visit the Arts and Crafts market where you may test your bargaining and trading skills against the vendors. After returning to your hotel with the great bargains you have secured, refresh and relax before your late evening homeward flight.
